This is how Molly became so dedicated to helping in the greyhound adoption effort…
Pasha’s Tale:
A Fable of
Good
Coming Out of
Bad
Years ago, while we were making a visit to a small town in another state, my greyhound of 3 years, Pasha, bolted straight through the front door and out into the night. Since I had been resting in bed when this happened, precious first seconds and minutes were lost. It was cold, dark, and neither Pasha nor I had much of a clue as to the lay of the land. When the morning finally came, I was sick with anxiety, lack of sleep, and desperation. In an attempt to pull myself together, I decided to go online and search for the phone number of a greyhound rescue that I thought was somewhat local. I figured that I could use any and all suggestions that they might be able to offer.
There is no way that I could have anticipated what that call started. Before I knew it, there were upwards of 20 dedicated volunteers calling me, scouring the local roads, posting fliers, talking to local residents and businesses, doing whatever was necessary to help find Pasha. This groundswell of support from total strangers was incredible, unforgettable, and effective. Three and one half days later, and right after a snowstorm, we found Pasha. His homecoming was literally a direct result of the efforts of those exceptional people.
With Pasha back, the question became, “how can I give back, and thank all of these people?” For me, the answer was to volunteer for a rescue organization and to become active in helping to find other lost greyhounds. As I had just quit my job, and was beginning to launch my art career, I had the time and flexibility to do just that. While volunteering at a local rescue I met some great folks (not to mention all the greyhounds) and was later hired at that same kennel. In total, I worked there for over 3 years. Now, with the steadfast support of two Amazing People (think of the founders of Amazing Greyz, Inc., Greyhound Adoption) a marriage of my two pursuits (art and greyhound rescue) has been forged! The two separate lines of “CARDS WITH A CONSCIENCE” were developed for greyhound adoption kennels to be used as tools in fundraising. They are also available to the greyhound loving public at large
