Thank you for your interest in adopting a retired racing greyhound.
Greyhounds truly are an extraordinary breed. When their soulful eyes make that magic connection with your heart compelling you to provide them with a loving ‘forever’ home, greyhounds almost always demonstrate their appreciation by just being themselves… warm, sensitive, responsive, expressive, affectionate, playful and intelligent. They are wonderfully loyal companions for most people and will often times become your very best friend. We are very pleased that you are considering bringing a greyhound into your life.
Our organization is dedicated to providing greyhounds with the best possible care while they await their ‘forever’ homes. Through careful observation and interaction with each dog in myriad situations, we are able to more accurately assess their needs, personalities and overall demeanor, helping us to determine their most appropriate placement. It is our goal to work diligently towards an adoption that will result in a mutually beneficial experience for our dogs and for the special individuals/families who willingly welcome them into their hearts… and homes.
Adopting a greyhound is a very serious decision and commitment. Please be advised that greyhounds can live 12 to 14 years and, in some instances, even longer. It is extremely traumatic for a dog to be abandoned by its family once he/she has settled into a new home. Pets should never be considered dispensable. Before signing this application, please consider the following very carefully:
- Proper nutrition and veterinary care are essential and veterinary care, in particular, can sometimes be costly
- Lifestyle changes such as marriage, divorce, having children, moving
- General expenses incurred for giving your dog proper care
To further help you to make an informed decision, we welcome any questions and/or concerns you may have. We pride ourselves on being a support system and resource for you: before, during and after the adoption process. In addition, we recommend the following books dedicated to greyhounds:
